Beijing Design Week (BJDW) is a large-scale cultural event held annually; the birth of this creative event, of national and international scope, was approved by the Central Committee of the Party and the Council of State, it is also co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and the Municipal Government of Beijing. BJDW can boast the title of the largest design week in Asia thanks to its platform, oriented towards service design and sustainable development, which annually attracts more than 2,000 designers, representatives of various institutions and academic professionals, it is also followed by more of 100 newspapers and about 5 million viewers.
This year Beijing Design Week will take place from September 23 to October 7 and it will involve various locations in the city of Beijing such as Zhangjiawan Design Town, the National Agriculture Exhibition Center, the China Millennium Monument, the City of Design Building, and the Gehua Building. The guest city of 2021’s edition will e Helsinki, capital of Finland: the event will focus on the theme “Joint design for better life” and showcase sustainable “smart solutions” linked to education and urban development.
Participation in the Beijing Design Festival is an opportunity for Helsinki to present its expertise and to strengthen the city’s partnerships and visibility in China. Beijing is the only official sister city of Helsinki, and cooperation with Beijing is one of the key themes of Helsinki’s international strategy.
